Clint Bolick Arizona Republic
With Arizonans reeling from high gasoline prices and other economic woes, how do our statewide government officials respond? By slapping on a surcharge—in essence, a new energy tax---that adds one million dollars per month to residential utility bills and millions more for businesses.
The officials who imposed the tax are not the governor or legislators, but members of an obscure body with limited powers but grandiose ambitions: the Arizona Corporation Commission.
Quoted by Clint Bolick
We have to be aware and watch the changes in today's law. Don't stick your head in the sand until you find that your power bill has a Renewal Energy charge that pays for energy to be transmitted from South Dakota or Florida to the state of Texas because of an investment company's buy back rights.
The Goldwater Institute spoke up and has asked the Arizona Supreme Court to strike down the rule and utility surcharge. This will prevent Corporation Commission from estabishing itself as a fourth branch of state government
